Mrs Agnes Batengas(Tanzanian)

Director and Chairperson

Agnes is the Board Chairperson of AAR Insurance Tanzania Limited. She is a Consultant based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and specializes in the fields of Project Management, Project Finance, Value Management and Development Consultancy. She has an MBA (Real Estate and Construction) from the University of Reading UK, a Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Postgraduate Diploma in Project Management, UK and a BSc. Honors Degree in Building Engineering and Management from the University of Brighton, UK. Mrs Batengas is a well seasoned professional based in Tanzania, specializing in Governmental Institutions and private sector matters. She’s also a member of professional bodies both locally and internationally and has sat on the board of the African Real Estate Society (Afres) that is a constituent member of the International Real Estate Society (IRES).


Mr. NJagi Gakunju (Kenyan)

Director and Chairman of the Investments Committee

Jagi joined AAR in 1992 as Sales and Marketing Manager and moved through the ranks to his current position. He was responsible for restructuring and realigning the company between 2004 and 2011. He is particularly focused on expansion into other regions in Africa. He holds a Masters degree in healthcare administration from Minnesota University. A lawyer by profession, he obtained his LLB at Nairobi University and is a keen environmentalist. He is the chairman and founder member of Uvumbuzi Club and was honoured with a UN Recognition Award on Solid Waste Management through his association with the club. Jagi is a Director of the Africa Fund for Endangered Wildlife (AFEW Kenya), a Council Member of Wildlife Clubs of Kenya and a former Director of Friends of Nairobi National Park (FONNAP).


Dr. Edmund Mndolwa (Tanzanian)


Dr. Edmund Mndolwa is an accomplished accountant having worked as partner of PwC Tanzania for 29 years. Edmund became the first resident Chairman of AAR Insurance Tanzania Ltd in 2011. He qualified as a Certified Chartered Accountant, (ACCA) in the UK in 1972. After the collapse of the East African Community he joined Deloitte for 4 years as a partner and then in 1981 joined PwC as partner till 2009 when he retired. He holds an MBA in Finance and Banking and a PhD in Finance. In practice he specialised as auditor, taxation, liquidations and corporate governance. Currently he is Chairman of KCB Bank Tanzania Ltd, The Chairman of the National Insurance Corporation Tanzania, the Vice Chairman of CHC Ltd, and a director of PPRA


Mr. Method Kashonda (Tanzanian)

Director and Chairman of the Risk and Audit Committee

Mr Method Kashonda is the chairman of board Risk and Audit Committee. He is a Fellow member (FCCA) of Chartered Association of Certified Accountants (ACCA). He holds an MBA degree in Finance and Banking from Mzumbe University, Tanzania. He served as a member of the International Assembly of ACCA for three terms of two years each up to 2005. Method is a founder president and now executive committee member of the ACCA Tanzania Members Branch. He is currently a member of the National Board of Accountants and Auditors and Vice Chairman of the Board’s Technical Services Committee, a member of the Governing Council and chairman of the Publications Committee of the Tanzania Association of Accountants. He is also the chairman of the National Consumer Advocacy Council of Tanzania.


Mr. Max Coppoolse (Dutch)

Mr Max Coppoolse is the Managing Director of Investment Fund for Health in Africa (IFHA) established in 2007, as a venture capital fund dedicated to small to medium size (equity) investments in private healthcare companies in Sub-Saharan Africa. Mr Coppoolse holds a degree in Industrial psychology, and has various International Management Courses in financial and General Management. He has held various Executive Management positions over a 38 year period including as Director Operations and Finance PharmAccess International; General Manager Business and Mobile Communication  and then CEO of Teleselect with KPN Philips, Director Special Projects with Libertel-Vodafone, CEO of Philips Malaysia and held a number of executive positions with Uniliver. Max also sits as a director and Chairman of the HR Committee of AAR Insurance Holdings.
